pregnancy may have made me crazy

So we are going to visit my dad's parents in Texas the second weekend of March and I've crazily decided that I'm going to try and get Adam potty trained before we leave so that I don't have to pack a bunch of diapers.
I'm not sure how well this is going to go but I'm hoping that 17 days is enough time to do this in. I have every confidence that when he decides he's ready to use the potty he will take to it like a champ, my only worry is that he has absolutely no interest in the process. I can see myself getting him partially trained on his little potty then refusing to go in the big potties thus forcing me to carry that green and blue seat throughout the airport. ugh! that idea right there is almost enough to make me wait until we get back. But being that I'm all hopped up on hormones and what not I'm finding myself worrying. Worrying that he won't be trained in time. Worrying that I'm pushing him into something he has no interest in and isn't ready for. Worried that if I don't do it soon then he's going to get a complex because everyone always asks him when he's going to start using the potty. One minute I think this is going to work and we can do it then the next I get frustrated because he's still going in the pull ups.

The thing about potty training is that everyone has an opinion on what will work best and there's no definitive answer as to the correct way. What worked for one kid may not work for another. And I'm so sick and tried of the unsolicited advise! The whole thing frustrates me to no end! I just want my son to say to me "I'm ready" or "I want to go in the potty" but half the time he says that then either doesn't follow through or says he wants to go back to wearing diapers. I suppose the best thing to do is try, try again. and to remind myself and Adam that if it doesn't take the first time that we didn't fail.

TRY, TRY AGAIN. this is my new mantra. hopefully it will get me through this.

they told me this could happen...

You always hear stories about the possibilities. About how it has happened to others but I just assumed it wouldn't happen to me. I am now eating my words.
My son has decided that he needs to be a baby again. He is regressing. I assumed he'd at least wait until after his sister was born but with 2 1/2 months to go he is getting harder and harder to deal with. I'm sure his attitude is a combination of many factors; growing pains, different schedules, hanging out with Gma who doesn't really like to say "no", but I think a big factor is his realization that he won't be the only one around anymore.
I watch my 4 month old nephew 3 days a week, that combined with my growing belly, has him acting more like he did last year. He refuses to use his words anymore, he would rather throw a fit/cry/scream/yell then tell anyone what he wants. He has stopped being my helpful like man and instead shrugs his shoulders and as I don't know how. When I tell him something he stands there and gives me a look. Half the time I tell myself he's just testing me. That he's at the age where he needs to know his boundaries and his defiance is a learning thing. Other times when he want to crawl onto my lap, or wants me to carry him or refuses to feed himself I wonder if this would be happening if I wasn't pregnant. I don't want to blame myself/little sister but I can't help wonder if this attitude is some how my fault.
Not necessarily because of the new baby, but maybe because I'm not as consistent as I should be. Sometimes it's easier to let him have that other piece of candy or to pick up his toys for him. When you are always tired, who wants to fit with a 3 year old. I know I may be doing a disservice to his little brain by being so wishy washy but honestly, some days I don't really care. Yes, I know I may be making it harder on myself and the hubs when I keep changing the rules.
That is why I like to think its a regression thing. Because if so after she comes around, he will see that being a baby isn't all that's cracked up to be. That being a big boy gets you cookies and chocolate milk and super heroes. I'm hoping that this "phase" we are in right now goes away soon. I don't know if I can handle a whiny 3 year old AND a newborn. Especially with the midnight feedings and the lack of sleep.
So here's to hoping that he starts acting his age.
AND... if he is in fact acting his age, that he grows out of this stage SOON!

a lot can happen in 10 weeks

Today my sister in law had a facebook post about how fast the month has gone by. It's hard to believe that almost 3 weeks ago my little man turned 3 years old. Writing that it makes me think about time speeding by even more so. 3 YEARS!!!! The things that have happened in that time frame. So many to list and that's a post for another day. Getting back to my story.... so SIL posts about it being mid-February and it's got me freaking out now. My baby shower is 2 weeks from this Saturday!!! That's 16 days people. When my sister and I started talking about details I was thinking, we don't really need to plan that much now, it's still so far away. And now its quickly approaching.
PLUS on top of that, we decided to take a trip to see my grandparents in Texas the following weekend. So I'll be busy planning for that as well. Which means that by the time I get back and settled from that great trip we'll be about a month away from Jocelyn's big debut.
I've been so preoccupied with getting to 30 weeks (why? i don't know. light at the end of the tunnel maybe?) that now that I'm here it's kind of freaking me out. We still need to clear the desk/computer/books/junk out of the 3rd bedroom and get it set up. We're not in agreement over where to move said desk/computer so that's an issue also. I would love to have Adam potty trained by then also but he seems to be more and more resistant to it. In fact I think he's actually regressing a little bit lately. He's whiny, cries and is just plain stubborn more often than not lately. but that too is another post.

ARGH!!!!!!!  i'm sure we'll get it all done by then but what fun is it if there's no worry involved.

getting our act together.

With tax season coming up we have been talking about all that we want to accomplish and/or "get" with the return we will be getting back. I find myself daydreaming about what we don't "have" and think that I've become a little bit of a jealous debbie-downer. I had to stop and take a moment to figure out what my problem was. I have everything I need, but I have been consumed with what I want. Or worse yet, what others have that I don't. Wither its from blogs, facebook or just basic human interaction I find myself thinking "why them? why couldn't i have that? WHY NOT ME?!?!?!?"
I feel incredibly selfish when my thoughts wonder in those directions but its really hard to stop myself. I don't begrudge them their happiness/good fortune/success. I just find myself thinking why can't I have that. It's hard in this day and age to not be focused on the next big thing. We are always constantly looking for the next item or thing to fulfill whatever we think we are lacking. Bigger home. Nicer/newer car. whatever. But I have a great family. a roof over our head. food in our bellies. clothes. toys. I really can't ask for more but often find myself doing just that.

I read blogs where people sell everything and move to mexico. or they live on a household budget of $300 /mth (minus mortgage and gas). They make/grow the majority of their food/cleaning supplies/clothes and I think to myself, how on earth can they do it? I get bummed when I can't afford a coffee from a fancy chain when in all reality, most of the time they aren't that good or as good as I think they should be. I could just as easily make a pot of coffee use a bit of creamer perhaps or drink some water.
I really don't like the materialistic nature that is overrunning our society. I went to a birthday party recently where the little kid didn't even say thank you for presents. It was as if they expected gifts and had lost all gratitude. One gift was opened and immediately discarded for the next one, there was even a comment made about how they were happy to get money so could get something they actually wanted. A LITTLE KID!?! no one should be that ungrateful, let alone someone under 10. Is this really what we want our kids to act like? What kind of example are we creating for the next generation? Is this how I want my son to behave?
I need to seriously rethink my approach to "things" so that he doesn't grow up thinking he needs all. I want him to have a healthy view of what we really need to survive. Yes it's fun to have toys and gadgets but life will go one without them. I need to remember this the next time i hear that so and so got the next best/big/brighter thing.  I need to remember that it's no longer just me and that I need to start acting like a mom. Someone who has the family's best interest at heart, not her own. I fear that it will be hard at first but every Starbucks I pass without stopping is a start :)

This isn't really where I thought my post was going to go when I started out. I was going to talk about what we had planned for our tax money and how we were re-focusing on whats best for our future money wise. a revised budget type of thing but alas..... this is what came out. it kind of goes along those lines.
